<p>Disclosed is a method for producing an optical compensation film which has a retardation layer containing a polymerizable liquid crystal compound, while being reduced in surface roughness, alignment defects and haze increase. Specifically disclosed is a method for producing an optical compensation film, which comprises: a coating step in which a coating liquid that is obtained by dissolving a calamitic polymerizable liquid crystal compound into an organic solvent is applied over a supporting body; a drying step in which the coating film that has been formed on the supporting body by the application of the coating liquid is dried; an alignment step that is performed after the drying step; and a curing step in which the coating film is irradiated with active radiation, said curing step being performed after the drying step. The method for producing an optical compensation film is characterized in that when the coating liquid is applied over the supporting body in the coating step, the coating liquid is heated to a temperature that is higher, by 5-40°C, than the temperature thereof at the time of application, and then cooled to the application temperature and applied over the supporting body.</p> |
