<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resin composition having mechanical characteristics (hardness), a depolarization property, and transparency, suitable for a material for a transparent protective film of a color filter substrate constituting a liquid crystal display device and for a spacer material, a color filter applying the same, and the liquid crystal display device with high pressure resistance and excellent in display characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: The transparent resin composition for color filter is mainly composed of at least a transparent resin and inorganic fine particles. The inorganic fine particles are contained by 5-15 pts.mass of the total solid content, and Martens hardness at 1.5 μm of cured product film thicknesses is in the range of 500-600. Also, the color filter substrate is produced by applying and forming the resin composition to/on a color filter substrate including a transparent substrate with a black matrix and coloring pixels with a plurality of colors formed thereon, and curing the applied resin composition.
