PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an amplifying device which maintains linearity of a gain and a control method thereof. SOLUTION: The device is provided with: first amplifying parts (91 to 97) for changing its gain in a stepwise manner; a second amplifying part 99 which is connected in series to the first amplifying parts (91 to 97), and changes its gain in a stepwise manner; and a gain control part 100 which controls gain setting of the first amplifying parts (91 to 97) and the second amplifying part 99. The first amplifying parts (91 to 97) has a gain variable range necessary for amplifying the input signal to a predetermined desired level. The second amplifying part 99 has a gain variable range narrower than that of the first amplifying part.
