PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an installation method for a covering plate, which can reduce a traffic hindrance and shorten a construction period, when a concrete box is laid by an open shield method. SOLUTION: In this open shield method, a covering plate advancing/retreating jack 18 is installed on both sides of a road when a construction site is in the direction perpendicular to the road, and after the covering plate 17 is advanced from one side of the road to the generally center of the road and laid down, the covering plate 17 is advanced from the other side of the road to the generally center of the road and laid down.
