PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high strength alloy casting plate which is practical and excellent in soundness by preventing generation of defects like black stripes of a casting plate. SOLUTION: The magnesium alloy consists of, by mass, 2-10% Al, 0.1-0.5% Mn,≥0.004 to <0.03% C,≤1.2% Zn (including 0%), and the balance substantially Mg with inevitable impurities. In the magnesium alloy, many of Al<SB>4</SB>C<SB>3</SB>are formed in a temperature region higher than those of crystal grains of magnesium in solidification, Al<SB>4</SB>C<SB>3</SB>functions as a crystal core, and thus, aluminum crystal grains are equalized and miniaturized.
