The device (4) has an error detection unit (10) connected to a line (5) that is guided to a LED arrangement (2). The detection unit detects an electrical variable that is detectable at the line. The detection unit monitors time response of the detected electric variable to detect an LED error, where the electric variable is voltage (U) applied at the LED-arrangement and/or current flowing via the LED arrangement. An error signal (S) is produced when the LED error is present, and the detection unit evaluates long-term changes of current and voltage. An independent claim is also included for a monitoring procedure for an LED arrangement.
