<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce loads on knees and femur regions of an occupant by providing a function to guide deployment of an airbag so that the knee air bag does not deploy behind an instrument panel of a vehicle. <P>SOLUTION: During an initial deployment stage of the airbag 6, the airbag 6 exerts a force against a first portion 2. The force on the first portion 2 is transferred to a second portion 3 and causes both the first portion 2 and the second portion 3 to follow a path as shown by a first arrow 27 and a second arrow 28. As the first portion 2 and the second portion 3 bend, the airbag 6 follows the path formed by a ramp surface 2' and a ramp surface 3'. As a result, the airbag 6 contacts the first portion 2 during the initial deployment stage, the airbag 6 deploys in a downward direction and thus it is possible to prevent the airbag 6 from deploying behind the instrument panel 4. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
