摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a memory device which very accurately detects contact between a head slider and a storage medium, and to provide a method for determining the contact of a head slider. SOLUTION: A protrusion 48 contacts a storage medium 14 on the basis of increased electric signals. The protrusion 48 moves up and down by the action of an AC component superposed on the electric signals. Consequently, the contact and non-contact between the protrusion 48 and the storage medium are repeated. When the contact occurs, frictional force is generated between the protrusion 48 and the storage medium 14. The head slider 22 is dragged along the surface of the storage medium 14. Alternatively, when the contact does not occur, the frictional force is not generated. The head slider 22 is dragged to return to the initial position. Thus, the head slider 22 oscillates, and a head suspension 21 also oscillates at the same time. The frequency of the AC component accords with the natural frequency of the head suspension 21, and consequently the head suspension 21 resonates.
