PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disk device which reduces a period for detecting a tray having no disk placed thereon. SOLUTION: When a cover is opened, a CD player 1 identifies an empty tray on the basis of information provided from disk sensors 61 to 65. The CD player 1 turns a turntable 5 to move the identified empty tray to the position of a tray 52 immediately below the cover. When a CD is placed on the moved tray, the CD player 1 furthermore identifies an empty tray and furthermore moves the identified empty tray to the position of the tray 52 immediately below the cover.
