PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image forming apparatus capable of reducing unwanted power consumption further than in the conventional manner, a control method therefor and a computer program. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 1 is provided with: a print job receiving part 503 receiving an authentication print job; a job holding part 505 storing image data concerning the received authentication print job; an authentication information decision part 506 performing authentication based on user's operation; and a printer printing an image based on the image data stored in the job holding part 505 when a user is authenticated. When an operation mode is set to a sleep mode, and after deciding that the user is authenticated and before performing printing by the printer, a power controller 502 shifts the operation mode to a sleep print mode without shifting it to a standby mode from the sleep mode, and allows the printer to perform printing.
