The invention relates to a method for producing metal-oxide fibers or metal fibers having a diameter in the range of 0.1 to 999 nm by electrospinning a solution containing one or more polymers, one or more metallic salts, one or more complexing agents, and a solvent, comprising the following steps: (a) providing a solution containing one or more polymers, one or more metallic salts, one or more complexing agents, and a solvent, wherein the solution has a water content of at least 50 wt%, (b) electrospinning the solution, and (c) removing the polymer.
