PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorescent solvatochromic dye that is excited by blue light and has a wide-ranging emission spectrum including red light, and a white light source apparatus comprising the dye that has a high color-rendering property.

SOLUTION: The fluorescent solvatochromic dye is an N,N'-dimethylaminopyrene derivative represented by the formula. The white light source having good color reproducibility and having a high color-rendering property is attained by using a light-emitting film composed of a polymer having dispersed therein fine particles having the dye adsorbed thereto and a blue light-emitting diode. In the formula, R is any one of (a) to (c): (a) -CHO, (b) -CH=C(CN)(COOC2H5) and (c) -CH=C(COOC2H5)2.
