PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lubricating oil composition which better functions in diesel engines, particularly in diesel engines equipped with EGR systems, and more particularly in diesel engines equipped with condensed EGR systems, and, in more detail, ameliorates soot-induced viscosity increase during use of such engines. SOLUTION: The lubricating oil composition contains a combination of oil of lubricating viscosity, one or more block copolymers of hydrogenated poly(monovinyl aromatic hydrocarbon) and poly (conjugated diene) as a viscosity modifier, and one or more optionally substituted bridged hydrocarbyl phenol condensates, or metal salts thereof, as a cleaning agent.
