PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an ultra-thin-walled seamless metal tube by a diameter expansion rolling method, which is characterized by a high degree of working and a high efficiency, using a cold pilger mill of mechatronic-driven type. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing an ultra-thin-walled seamless metal tube utilizes a cold pilger mill of mechatronic-driven type having a mechanism for providing a feed and a rotational angle to a tubular material not only immediately before the start of a forward stroke of rolling but also immediately before the start of a return stroke of the rolling. The method utilizes a pair of rolls 21 that have tapered hole dies 31 with a diameter reduced or expanded from the engaging inlet side toward the finishing outlet side of the rolls 21, and a tapered mandrel 41 that has a diameter expanded from the engaging inlet side toward the finishing outlet side of the rolls to reduce the wall thickness of the tubular material and to stretch the tubular material while expanding the diameter of the center of the wall thickness of the tubular material. In the method, a higher degree of working in the rolling, a reduction in wall thickness to an ultra-thin level, and an improved product dimensional accuracy can be realized by providing to the tubular material, immediately before the start of a return stroke of rolling, a rotational angle and/or a feed which is the same as or similar to that provided to the tubular material in a forward stroke of the rolling.
