PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved cleaning appliance of the canister type. SOLUTION: The cylindrical cleaning appliance includes a floor engaging rolling assembly (20) including a fluid inlet for receiving a fluid flow and a device for acting on the fluid flow received through the inlet, and a steering mechanism (32) including a chassis (34) connected to and projecting from the rolling assembly, a plurality of floor engaging steering members (40) connected to the chassis and a control mechanism (42, 44, 58) for changing simultaneously the orientation of the steering members relative to the chassis.
