PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the aperture ratio of pixels while suppressing the degradation of the image quality of a transmissive liquid crystal display device. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device has a liquid crystal layer between a first substrate and a second substrate, and the first substrate includes a plurality of scanning signal lines, a plurality of video signal lines, a plurality of TFT elements and a plurality of pixel electrodes. The TFT element includes a semiconductor layer disposed on the scanning signal line through a first insulating layer, a drain electrode connected to the video signal line and the semiconductor layer, and a source electrode connected to the pixel electrode and the semiconductor layer. The pixel electrode is connected to a land provided on one end of the source electrode through a contact hole formed at a second insulating layer. The scanning signal line has an opening on the outer side of a region crossing the video signal line and a region overlapping with the semiconductor layer, and the land of the source electrode and the contact hole are on the opening of the scanning signal line.
