PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device low in power consumption and high in definition for preventing the lowering of the aperture ratio of a screen. SOLUTION: A display area comprises a plurality of divided display areas, image signals and control signals transmitted from an image processor 1000 are superimposed on lighting drive (illumination) signals for illumination and modulated, and light emitted by an LED 60c is emitted from a light transmission body 40c configuring a backlight 40 on the basis of modulated signals. A part of illumination light emitted for each divided display area is reflected on a reflection layer 800c formed on the surface of a counter substrate 200, the reflected light is received by an optical sensor 601, the image signals and the control signals are demodulated from reflection signals based on the reflected light, and a plurality of signal lines and a plurality of scanning lines in each divided area on an array substrate 100 are driven by a control circuit 600c.
