PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display controller capable of reducing power consumption. SOLUTION: The display controller 20 controls the display of a nonvolatile display panel 10 having a plurality of pixels. Each of the plurality of pixels has a back surface electrode 17 for updating the display of the pixel. The display controller 20 includes: a display image storage part 21 for storing a display image 30 being displayed at present by the display panel 10; an updating image storage part 22 for storing an updating image 31 to be displayed next on the display panel 10; an updating area determination part 23 for specifying a change pixel 32 which is a pixel whose data are different between the display image 30 and the updating image 31 and determining an updating area 33 including the change pixel 32 and including only a part of the plurality of pixels that the display panel 10 has; and a display updating part 24 for updating the image displayed by the display panel 10 from the display image 30 to the updating image 31 by applying a voltage to only the back surface electrodes 17 that the pixels included in the updating area 33 have.
