Absorbent article (10) comprising absorbent material (12) that is arranged to absorb fluid. The absorbent article comprises a wetness gauge that comprises a capacitor (16) having a first conductor (18) and a second conductor (20) which are arranged to extend over a substantial length (X) of said absorbent material (12), whereby the first conductor (18) is capacitively coupled to said second conductor (20). At least one of the first conductor (18) and the second conductor (20) is/are arranged so as to be fluid-proofed from said absorbent material (12), whereby said wetness gauge is arranged to determine the amount of fluid absorbed along said substantial length (X) of said absorbent material (12) by monitoring the capacitance between said first conductor (18) and the second conductor (20).
