PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microscope illuminating device with improved versatility for a sample. SOLUTION: A total reflection illuminating optical system T of an epi-illumination device 33 totally reflects a parallel light flux by laser light on the side of a sample 201 of cover glass 204 protecting the sample 201 by collecting total reflection illumination light guided from a laser stand 101 through optical fiber 35 within a predetermined range on an image side focal plane of an objective lens 28. A PAU illumination optical system P collects the laser light onto the sample 201 by emitting PAU illumination light in a parallel light flux guided through optical fiber 36 onto the objective lens 28. One or more types of light for emitting onto the sample 201 can be selected among the total reflection illumination light and the PAU illumination light by replacing a mirror 137 or by moving it in the direction of an arrow A5.
