PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a single fan to prevent both ends of a fixing roller from being excessively heated when paper smaller than the maximum paper size is used in an image forming apparatus in which paper is passed under the fixing roller so that the widthwise centers of the fixing roller and the paper match with each other. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: air intake ports 10a and 10b formed in positions corresponding to both ends of the fixing roller 21; and blowing ducts 41 and 42 and the fan 43 which limit a blowing path extending through the fixing roller 21 to a direction extending from both ends of the fixing roller 21 to the middle part thereof and exhaust air taken from the air intake ports 10a and 10b from both ends of the fixing roller 21 via the middle part. The fan 43 is driven under the condition that the size of paper passed under the fixing roller 21 is smaller than a predetermined size and/or the temperatures of the ends of the fixing roller 21 have a predetermined temperature or above.
