PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cool a paper sheet prior to the repassage of it through a fixing device, and to prevent the remelting of toner on the paper sheet repassed through the fixing device and the fixing failure on the paper sheet passed through the fixing device first time. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with: a transfer device 6 for transferring a toner image to paper sheet P; a fixing device 7 for thermally fixing the toner image transferred to the paper sheet; a transfer fixing conveyance path 11 for conveying the paper sheet to the transfer device and conveying the paper sheet, passed through the transfer device, to the fixing device; an inverting conveyance path 22 for inverting the paper sheet, passed through the fixing device, back to front and conveying the paper sheet to the transfer fixing conveyance path, upstream of the transfer device; and a first contact section 27 disposed in contact with the paper sheet being conveyed along the transfer fixing conveyance path. The first contact section has a heat accumulating portion 28 to accumulate heat transmitted from the paper sheet as a result of the contact with this paper sheet convened from the inverting conveyance path, and to contact paper sheet that is not conveyed from the inverting conveyance path, thereby dissipating heat to the paper sheet.
