PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pedestrian protection device attaining suppression of unrequired nose-dive and reduction of device cost. SOLUTION: When an automobile V collides to the other automobile or a pedestrian, a collision signal is outputted from a collision detection device 15 to a damping force control device 20. So, since determination of step S10 becomes Yes, the damping force control device 20 stops a drive current at step S11 and is returned to a start position. When the drive current is stopped at step S11, in respective dampers 4, strong magnetic fine particles in MRF are separated from each other by releasing excitation of a magnetic fluid valve and the damping force totally becomes 0. Therefore, even when a pedestrian 40 falls down on a bonnet immediately after the collision, a vehicle body 1 is easily dived and impact received by the pedestrian 40 is effectively suppressed.
