PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide fire extinguishing auxiliary facilities for oil tanks and a method for extinguishing fire in an oil tank, which can smoothly supply solid floating material onto the surface of flammable liquid in the oil tank. SOLUTION: The fire extinguishing auxiliary facilities for oil tanks assist extinguishing of the fire of the flammable liquid in the oil tank, and is provided with: an upper storage chamber which is installed above the surface of the flammable liquid and stores the solid floating material; and an opening mechanism which allows the upper storage chamber to open to drop the solid floating material, thereby floating and spreading on the surface of the flammable liquid.
