A 3D image display apparatus provided with a transmission-reception unit and a control signal transmitter. The transmission-reception unit generates an image signal once receiving, from a 3D image playback apparatus via a transmission cable, video data which includes a plurality of image information sets and is the original data for a 3D image. The control signal transmitter transmits, to shutter glasses, a control signal for controlling the passage of light at each of the light-passing parts used for the user's eyes. Specifically, the transmission-reception unit receives the video data from the 3D image playback apparatus via the single transmission cable, then generates an image signal and synchronization signal. The synchronization signal indicates whether the image signal currently being output includes any of the plurality of image information sets. Then, the control signal transmitter generates a control signal based on the synchronization signal.
