[Class 34 (ii)J [Also in Group XII] A vertical drying apparatus is arranged adjacent a shaft lime kiln so as to be heated thereby and communicates with a vertical flue for the escape of the steam produced. The invention is shown applied to a battery of kilns 2 alternating with dryers 1, each of the latter communicating through openings 4, Fig. 3, with two steam escape shafts 5 arranged one on each side. The shafts 5 give access to the dryers and may be fitted with steps to facilitate inspection and attendance ; they also provide means of access and entry of light to the tunnel 7 into which the kiln and dryers discharge. Inclined plates 6 pivoted to the inside of each dryer 1 at an angle of between 45 degrees and 80 degrees are vibrated to cause cascading of the material. The dryers are preferably utilized for the treatment of chalk prior to burning in the kilns.</p> |
