PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the life of an image support, an intermediate transfer body and the like, and to suitably transfer a toner image from the image support to the intermediate transfer body or transfer the same from the intermediate transfer body to a record medium in an image forming apparatus adapted to transfer the toner image from the image support to the intermediate transfer body and transfer the toner image from the intermediate transfer body to the record medium. SOLUTION: In this image forming apparatus adapted to transfer the toner image from the image support 10 to the intermediate transfer body 15 and transfer the toner image from the intermediate transfer body to the record medium S, the film thickness of a lubricant on the surface of the image support is set equal to or larger than the film thickness of the lubricant on the surface of the intermediate transfer body in applying the lubricant to the surface of the image support and the surface of the intermediate transfer body, respectively, after transferring by a first lubricant applying means 30 and a second lubricant applying means 40.
