LOW-BASIS-WEIGHT FILTER MEDIA FOR AIR FILTERS

Provided is a low-basis-weight filter media for air filters; said filter media remediates the problem of tear strength and water repellency declining with decreasing basis weight, and also can meet fire-resistance demands. The base fibers constituting the filter media are short glass fibers (A) and hydrophobized synthetic short fibers (B), said hydrophobized synthetic short fibers having fiber diameters of no more than 5 µm. (A) and (B) are blended with a mass ratio (A/B) between 70/30 and 95/5. For each 100 parts by mass of the aforementioned base fibers, 3 to 10 parts by mass of a hydrophobic synthetic resin binder are added. The basis weight of the filter media is between 25 and 50 g/m²
