The invention relates to a machine (M) that comprises a functional assembly (EF) to be inserted into the structure (SV) of an automobile in order to carry out at least one operation once in a functional position. The structure (SV) includes at least one opening (OP) adapted for said insertion and is placed on a bearing (SP) that includes a portion (PS1) substantially parallel to a transverse direction (Y) of the structure (SV) which is in turn perpendicular to a longitudinal direction (X). This machine (M) also includes in the lower portion thereof (PIB) an indexing arm (BI) that is fixed relative to the functional assembly (EF) and to be immobilized against the portion (PS1) in a selected stop position defined relative to the longitudinal (X) and transverse (Y) directions and defining the functional position of the functional assembly (EF).
