<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing 3-methylthiopropanal effectively suppressing the by-production of impurities of a high boiling point. <P>SOLUTION: The method for producing 3-methylthiopropanal is characterized by allowing acrolein and methyl mercaptan to react with each other in the presence of an allylamine (A). The reaction is preferably carried out further in the presence of an organic acid. The amount of the allylamine (A) to be used is preferably in a range of 0.01 to 1.0 mole relative to 1 mole of the organic acid and is further preferably in a range of 0.1 to 2.0 millimole relative to 1 mole of methyl mercaptan. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
