PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make an image forming apparatus compact by making a transporting path into a U-shape.

SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus, paper P is transported through the transporting path R and the transporting path R is formed in the U-shape. Photoreceptor drums 19 are provided to the inner periphery of the transporting path R formed in the U-shape. Optical scanning units 18 form electrostatic latent images on two or more photoreceptor drums 19 by simultaneously irradiating two or more photoreceptor drums 19 with beams B. Developing devices 22 are provided to correspond to a plurality of photoreceptor drums 19 and form the toner images corresponding to the electrostatic latent images by applying toner to the corresponding photoreceptor drum 19. Transfer rollers 24 are provided to correspond to the plurality of photoreceptor drums 19 on the outer periphery of the transporting path R formed in the U-shape and transfer toner images on the paper P.
