PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for optical checking of a wrapping paper tape for the tobacco processing industry. SOLUTION: The method for optical checking of wrapping paper tapes 21, 50 for the tobacco processing industry includes low ignition propensity zones 51, 61, and 61 ("LIP" zone) consisting of fire-resistant material on an inner side or outer side of the wrapping paper tape, and includes checking the presence and/or other characteristics of the LIP zones 51, 61, and 61' on or in the wrapping paper tape. Optical checking of the paper tape 21, 50 is carried out at a tobacco strand 28 of a tobacco processing industry, enclosed by the paper tape 21, 50, or at rod-shaped articles 32, 56 of the industry, enclosed by the paper tape 21, 50.
