PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device, obtaining a more satisfactory viewing angle limit effect when viewing a display surface obliquely in displaying at a narrow viewing angle. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal layer held between a pair of substrates, has at least a display area in which a plurality of display pixels are disposed, and can display at a narrow viewing angle in which a contrast ratio in the oblique direction making a predetermined angle to the normal direction of a display surface is smaller than a contrast ratio in the normal direction. The device includes a luminance control means for changing the luminance in the oblique direction time-wise with a frequency lower than the driving frequency in displaying an image by display pixels, by changing the effective applied voltage to the liquid crystal layer time-wise in displaying at a narrow viewing angle.
