PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oil separator capable of separating a refrigerating machine oil with high efficiency, effectively preventing the separated oil from flowing out to a coolant conduction line side, reducing pressure loss in the flow of coolant, and being radially miniaturized. SOLUTION: This oil separator has an inlet pipe 6 producing a downward helical flow along an inner face of a cylindrical outer pipe 4, a coolant outlet pipe 11 which has an external outflow port 7 for flowing-out, and in which the coolant separated from the refrigerating machine oil-containing coolant by the helical flow and inverted in the vertical direction at a first coolant inversion part 8, a coolant return pipe 16 which extends in the axial direction of the cylindrical outer pipe 4 at a central part of the cylindrical outer pipe at a lower part of the coolant outlet pipe 11 and in which the coolant separated from the refrigerating machine oil-containing coolant flowing down by the helical flow from a lower end side, and inverted in the vertical direction at a second coolant inversion part 13, and an oil storage section 17 formed on a bottom section of the cylindrical outer pipe 4, and further has a reflector function section 18 preventing the refrigerating machine oil from flowing out into the coolant outlet pipe 11.
