PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide lash adjuster retaining structure for an internal combustion engine, supporting a lash adjuster with high rigidity, easily manufacturable, and reduced in weight. SOLUTION: A cam housing 1 has a cam journal support part 5 supporting a camshaft 4. A fixed part 20 of a lash adjuster support member 2 supporting a hydraulic lash adjustor 8 is sandwiched between the cam journal support part 5 and a cam cap 3, and they are fastened together by a bolt 19. Thereby, the lash adjustor support member 2 is fixed to the cam housing 1. An oil is supplied to the hydraulic lash adjustor 8, through an oil path and an oil supply hole 15 formed in the cam journal support part 5, and an oil supply hole 26 formed to the lash adjustor support member 2.
