ELECTROLYTE AND SECONDARY BATTERY

Disclosed is a secondary battery wherein the battery performance can be improved safely. The electrolyte impregnated into a separator (13) contains an alkyl sulfone and a solvent with low polarity (a solvent having a relative dielectric constant of not more than 20) together with an aluminum salt. By containing an alkyl sulfone, the oxidation-reduction reaction of aluminum is more likely to proceed and the reactivity of the electrolyte is decreased. In addition, the oxidation-reduction reaction of aluminum is less likely to be inhibited due to the solvent with low polarity. As a result, aluminum can be deposited/dissolved more electrochemically efficiently during the charge and discharge periods, and a metal packaging member or the like is less susceptible to corrosion.
