PURPOSE: An ignition control device for a general purpose internal combustion engine is provided to prevent the service life of an ignition plug from being reduced due to idle combustion. CONSTITUTION: An ignition control device for a general purpose internal combustion engine comprises a unit for detecting the number of engine(10) rotation, a unit for calculating the average of the number of the rotation, an ignition stopping control unit, an ignition signal determining unit, and an ignition control unit. The unit for detecting the number of engine rotation detects the number of the engine rotation. The unit for calculating the average of the number of the rotation calculates the number of the rotation based on the number of the rotation of the detected engine. The ignition stopping control unit controls the ignition to stop ignition one or more times based on ignition signals. The ignition signal determining unit determines the ignition signals by comparing the detected number of the engine rotation. The ignition control unit controls the ignition based on selected ignition signals.
