PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a damper which can be expected to achieve damping action in an extension side in addition to achievement of damping action dependent on a position of a compression side, and to carry out improvement to a state of a preferable ride comfort in a vehicle. SOLUTION: A cylinder body 1 holding working fluid has a plurality of communication holes 1c, 1d, 1e, etc allowing communication to a reservoir R of a piston side chamber R2 at suitable intervals along an axial direction in the cylinder body 1, a piston body 3 has an upper piston body 31 and a lower piston body 32 on both sides of a volume chamber R3 not changing volume, and a headmost communication hole 1c positioned near a head end in the cylinder body 1 of the plurality of communication holes 1c, 1d, 1e, etc is bored in a position not blocked by the lower piston body 32 sliding in the cylinder body 1 when a rod load acting on a rod body 2 is in a 1G region.
