PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a locking device capable of exerting a function by a simple constitution, and capable of unlocking a door without use of a key by temporary energization when necessary. SOLUTION: This locking device A2 includes an operation-type locking/unlocking mechanism A3 which puts objects such as the door 133 and a body into a locked state by a locking operation using the key 31, and an automatic unlocking mechanism A4 for releasing the locked state without use of the key 31. The automatic unlocking mechanism A4 comprises a solenoid 41 which has a plunger 411 returning itself to a predetermined locking position (L) and which makes the plunger 411 forcedly recede to an unlocking position during energization, and a plunger holding means 42 for holding the plunger 411 in the unlocking position against a self-returning force until the application of a holding release operation, even after the completion of a forced receding operation performed by the solenoid 41.
