PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phosphorus-containing polyparaxylene aryl ether compound which imparts excellent flame retardance, heat resistance, and water resistance to an epoxy resin composition with a small environmental load without bleeding of a flame-retardant with a smaller amount added than in the past and obtains a cured product excellent in heat resistance and water resistance. SOLUTION: The phosphorus-containing polyparaxylene aryl ether compound is represented by formula 1 (wherein R1is a diphenylphosphine oxide derivative group; W is an aromatic hydrocarbon group; R2is an alkyl group or an aryl group; o is an integer of 0-4; and n is a number of not less than 1).
