A prosthetic joint such as a knee joint (figure 1) has a bone engaging element such as a tibial stem (8, figure 1) in which is secured one end of an artificial ligament 18. A bearing surface on the prosthesis acts to deflect the line of the ligament. The surface may be the chamfered mouth 30 of the bone engaging element or it may be a projection 70 preferably mounted on the tibial platform 4 of the joint. The bearing surface preserves the natural line of action of the ligament whilst allowing the ligament to be secured in a different orientation. |
