Method and device for operating a radar-controlled environment recognition system

The method involves switching a radar-based adaptive cruise control system from a standard mode with a predetermined frequency bandwidth into a high-resolution mode with an increased frequency bandwidth. The high resolution mode is limited temporarily depending on additional criteria. The additional criteria are dependent on radar-based adaptive cruise control system on vehicles (1,8,9), particularly of critical driving situation. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for executing the radar-based adaptive cruise control system operating method; and (2) a computer program product stored on a computer-usable medium.
