The detection device has a shaft (14), through which the installation of device into the pipe wall (23) takes place with the insert (24) in the pipe wall, the adapter (25), and the connection to an alarm unit (26). A test emitter is provided on evaluation unit, the signal of which emitter allows checking the outside of a ring (2) for contamination. The test emitter emits a signal reflected by the ring which represents a degree of contamination of the ring. An independent claim is included for a device assembly.
