METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR HANDLING TUBULAR GOODS

An apparatus for handling tubular goods includes a rigid elongate body having an upper end and a lower end. A coupling to facilitate attachment to a drive head is positioned at the upper end of the body, including an upper universal joint connection. The upper universal joint connection is capable of transferring torque while bending in any direction. A gripping assembly, adapted for engaging a tubular good, is positioned at the lower end, including a lower universal joint connection. The lower universal joint connection is capable of transferring torque while bending in any direction. The combination of the upper universal joint connection and the lower universal joint connection enables lateral movement between the drive head and the gripping assembly during transmission of torque.
