PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the lever ratio of a rotating lever from being changed even if a displacement occurs in the distance between a slide member and an actuator in the joining direction of a cylinder head and a head cover in a variable valve gear for an engine in which the valve gear capable of changing the operating characteristics of engine valves according to the operation of the slide member supported on the cylinder head is stored in a valve chamber between the cylinder head and the head cover, the actuator which develops a power for operating the slide member is attached to the head cover, and the rotating lever is interposed between the actuator and the slide member. SOLUTION: This variable valve gear is configured so that a rotating lever 67 connected to a slide member 59 slidable in the direction perpendicular to the joining direction 69 of a cylinder head 13 and a head cover 14 between which a gasket 9 made of an elastic material is interposed is rotatably supported on a pivot shaft 66 which has an axis in the joining direction 69 and is supported on at least either the cylinder head 13 and/or head cover 14.
