摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for driving a plasma display panel, capable of obtaining excellent display characteristics by improving the certainty of selection operation, preferably improving a contrast and absorbing a difference in drive characteristics by a luminescent color. SOLUTION: In a discharge cell in which a discharge start threshold voltage between surface electrodes is 250V and a discharge start voltage between opposing electrodes when a large number of active particles exist in discharge space is 350V, the reaching potential Vps of a preliminary discharge pulse Pps is set to 400V and the potential Vpc of a preliminary discharge pulse Ppc is set to 0V. When the voltage of the preliminary discharge pulse Pps rises and exceeds 250V being the discharge start threshold voltage between the surface electrodes, a weak discharge is generated between a scanning electrode and a maintaining electrode. After that, when the voltage of the preliminary discharge pulse Pps exceeds 350V being the discharge start threshold voltage between the opposing electrodes, the large number of active particles exist in the discharge space by the discharge between the surface electrodes, so that the weak discharge is generated between the scanning electrode and a data electrode.
