PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zoom lens whose entire lens system is compact and which can obtain high optical performance in the entire zoom range, and to provide an image capturing apparatus with the zoom lens. SOLUTION: The zoom lens includes, in order of from an object side toward an image side: a first lens unit with a negative refractive power; a second lens unit with a positive refractive power; and a third lens unit with the positive refractive power, the first, second, and third lens units moving to perform zooming. The first lens unit includes a negative 11th lens and a positive 12th lens in order from the object side toward the image side. A refractive index N11 of a material of the negative 11th lens, an Abbe numberν12 of a material of the positive 12th lens, and the radii of curvatures R11a, R11b of lens surfaces of the negative 11th lens on the object side and the image side are properly set.
