ELECTRODE ACTIVE MATERIAL, AND ELECTRODE USING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode active material affording an electrochemical element high in capacity and energy density and favorable in life characteristics.

SOLUTION: The electrode active material is constituted of a precisely polymerized polyfluorene derivative derived from a precisely polymerized polyfluorene in which fluorene rings which constitute polyfluorene are substantially polymerized at 2-position and 7-position and a fluorene ring at a chain terminal has a halogen substitute and is characterized in that the precisely polymerized polyfluorene derivative is a derivative obtained by substituting a phenyl group or a fluorenyl group for the halogen substitute of the fluorene ring at the chain terminal of the precisely polymerized polyfluorene. An electrical double layer capacitor having an electrode containing a conventional conductive polymer is shorter in service life than an electrical double layer capacitor having an electrode containing a carbon material. The electrical double layer capacitor having an electrode containing the electrode active material exhibits the life characteristics equal to that of the capacitor having the electrode containing the carbon material.
