PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent cooling water circulating in a bypass passage from being affected by heat from an engine body as much as possible when disposing a thermostat in a cylinder head and forming at least a portion of the bypass passage in an engine body, in a water-cooled internal combustion engine for a vehicle in which a water jacket for circulating the cooling water is formed in the engine body having the cylinder head, and the thermostat for controlling a state of leading cooling water led out from the water jacket to a radiator side and a state of leading the cooling water to a bypass passage side according to the cooling water temperature. SOLUTION: The thermostat 84 is disposed in the cylinder head 27, and the portion of the bypass passage 83 is provided in the cylinder head 27 to be adjacent to an intake port 45, extend in the direction orthogonal to the intake port 45 seen from a direction along an axis of a cylinder bore 40, and overlap with the intake port 45.
