PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic answering machine and a connection method, enabling a sender and a recipient to make a call as early as possible when both the parties want to perform communications with each other. SOLUTION: If a receiving terminal 40b is not a state capable of receiving a call when a transmitting terminal 40a transmits a call to the receiving terminal 40b, the transmitting terminal 40a is connected to an automatic answering machine 10 to enable a sender to leave a message for a recipient. A message storing section 12 of the automatic answering machine 10 stores the message transmitted from the transmitting terminal 40a. When the receiving terminal 40b becomes a reception available state, a playback propriety confirming section 14 transmits to the receiving terminal 40b, a guidance for confirming whether messages for the recipient party stored in the message storing section 12 should be played back or not.
